English Majors' Union

Our sole intent is the pursuit of academic interest.

The UVM EMU officers will be leaving after the Spring 2005 semester. This means we need you, friend, to rally the troops and keep the EMU going for another year. There's no reason not to. There is money available through the Buckham fund to pay for books, writing contest prises, and all the other English-related things one can think of. The EMU is a non-SGA club so that means you don't have to jump through any hoops. Do you want free books to read? Act up - the EMU needs you. Talk to Prof. McGowan in the English Department about continuing the fun and the free books. In the last two years the EMU has supplied members and friendly readers with books by P. Neruda, N. Chomsky, H. Miller, N. Klien, J. Seabrook, and C. Milosz. Keep it going and choose titles of your own.

- Book Discussion Groups - Seven or more people and meeting times is all that's needed to start your own discussion groups and get your own free books. Abundant resources are available for students, which are underused.
- Fall 2003 - our ex-commandante, Ms. Jane Jarecki, revived the UVM English Majors' Union. (But it will fall into disrepair without your attention!)
- The UVM EMU has focused its energy on student run/school funded book groups and writing competitioins. We're hoping through promotion and positive feedback to expand the EMU and its role within the department. Please contact us if you'd like to be involved.
