Technology UVM CAP uses GIS (ArcView 3.2) and CADD (AutoCad 2000) applications for mapping archaeological sites and areas of archaeological sensitivity, along with GPS navigation (Trimble GeoExplorer 3) to record the locations of such areas on USGS topographic maps, digital orthophotos, and project engineering maps. This technology enables us to more precisely locate and record resources relative to specific areas of project effects. This accuracy translates into more precise delineations of archaeological site boundaries, the establishment of more limited protective buffers around sites and sensitive areas, as well as a more accurate delineation of non-sensitive areas (e.g., previously disturbed areas).
