Outstanding AZ'ers

Vanessa Patten

Vermont Governor James Douglas, Vanessa Patten
and President Daniel Fogel

Vanessa recently graduated from UVM as an Animal Science major. What was remarkable about this is that Vanessa finished her degree requirements one semester early! She managed this in spite of being involved in numerous extracurricular activities. Vanessa is an avid runner and was a member of both the cross country and track teams. Vanessa was selected to represent UVM's cross country team in the America East Academic Cup in Fall 2009. Vanessa has also been an active member of UVM's CREAM (Cooperative for Real Education in Agricultural Management) program, which she completed in 2009 (please hotlink "CREAM" to their website http://asci.uvm.edu/cream/ ). Similarly, Vanessa was an officer in the Green Mountain Chapter of Alpha Zeta Fall'08/Spring'09 as the Censor, where she participated in a variety of events including the AZ dogwash at the Humane Society, apple picking at the Hort. Farm for the AZ cider press at the CALS Harvest Festival among other activities. Vanessa received one of the Green Mountain Chapter scholarships in 2009 along with the American Society of Animal Science Award and the Alexander Kende Academic Merit Award.

In summer 2009, Vanessa was selected to participate in a neuroscience course taught at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Currently, Vanessa is working as a veterinary technician assistant at VCA Brown Animal Hospital and also as a caregiver through Armistead Caregiver Services (in-home care) until she begins her Medical degree program at The University of Vermont Medical School starting in Fall 2010.
