Alternative Spring Break

Welcome To UVM's Alternative Spring Break (temporary) Website!

Hi Everyone!
As many of you know, our website has not been working for a couple weeks. We will be working very hard to get this website up and running soon so please hang in there and keep checking!

The next deadline is 11/11 for participant applications which are available here on the website. Don't forget to sign up for an interview when you hand them in!

Thanks for checking us out!

So What is ASB Like?

StudentsApplications go out during first semester for initial placement on trips. The application itself includes a brief interview just to get to know the 'personal' you, not just the piece of paper you hand in. By Thanksgiving, you are placed on a trip led by two stellar site leaders, and will begin meeting weekly with your group at the start of your second semester. Over that semester, you hang out and get to know your group, as well as attend training events to prepare you for your service during spring break. There may even be fun and secret ASB spirit events! By March you are stoked for spring break.

The participant fees are $150 for a driving trip and $250 for a flying trip. This includes everything: gas, food, lodging, airfare, etc. Some trips drive to their site, and some fly. If you're driving, then you are in a van with your fellow group members for a long time. Seem insane? It is! But it will be the best time of your life, guaranteed! The van is where you really get to know your group and anticipate the work you have been waiting all year to do. For the trips that extend across the country you will fly. Don't worry, you will still get to bond with your group, but on a 747 instead!

Work at your service site begins the first Monday of spring break and goes until Friday. Depending on your issue, and the amount of service that is needed, you will get some free time to explore and engage in your service community with your group. Usually group's head home the last Saturday of spring break, leaving just enough time for you to arrive back in Burlington before classes start. A couple weeks after you return, ASB has an annual re-entry celebration. This is a time to share and reflect on your ASB experience, hear about the other trips, and conclude this memorable experience.
