Transportation Fall 2010 SOC

In Fall 2010, TRC associated faculty will be offering the following courses in the area of transportation:

TRC 310 - Transportation Systems Seminar: Mobility for Aging Populations
Vermont is aging. In the next few years, Vermont is expected to become the state with the oldest average population in the U.S. Other rural states in the U.S. (as well as nations in Europe and Asia) are also experiencing similar demographic changes. There are many impacts of this demographic change on the delivery of health services and health policy. In this course we examine those impacts as it relates to mobility for aging Vermonters, the transportation system and access to health care. Students will examine the policy and systems aspects of the relationship of transportation to these issues, including travel to health care appointments, volunteer driver programs, the use of social networks, relationships between access to health care and health outcomes, transportation funding, isolation and mobility issues related to car dependence. Students will be required to prepare a paper or presentation that examines one aspect of this issue and relate it to their own work. This class meets Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:15.
Credits: 1 | Instructor: Richard Watts

TRC 312 - Critical Issues in Transportation
Introduction to the complex interconnection of engineering, policy, science and social science that characterize transportation systems, mobility problems and solutions. Interdisciplinary teams conduct case studies. Prerequiseite: Instructor permission.
