UTC
The University Transportation Center (UTC) program of the US DOT was created in 1987 with ten regional Centers. Since 2005, the US DOT has been funding 60 Center nation-wide. Ten of those Centers are National Centers, including UVM, which receive up to $3.5M per year for research, education, workforce development and technology transfer.
The UVM UTC focuses on mobility, sustainability and livability. The work includes a focus on northern and rural communities. In addition to funding faculty research projects, graduate students and development of new transportation courses, the UTC grant has allowed UVM to seed the larger Transportation Research Center as the second UVM Matrix Center. UTC funding also has been invested in workshops, outreach and conferences.
