Careers in Theatre
When you speak of careers in theatre, one immediately thinks of the students who move to New York, Boston, or L.A. to pursue the passions in theatre, television, or film. But there is a much broader view of what a degree in theatre might offer graduates from our program. Yes, we have alums who are working in their primary focus (performance, design/technology, or history/criticism) but we see that many find their way into paths not always associated to theatre or the performing arts. For example, we have students who have gone into major museums to work as curators or in development. We have students who have gone on to law school, teaching, and politics.
Within the field, we have students who have furthered their theatrical education by going to graduate school in the U.S., as well as studying with the British Academy of Performing Arts. We currently have graduates of our program stage managing Broadway musicals, building scenery for Broadway and national tours, principle actors in national commercials, head electrician for regional theatre and one who is currently making a living as stunt man in the deep south. Our graduates are spread around the country and pursuing a diversified spectrum of passions.
There is no end to the possibilities of where a degree in theatre might lead one. As one studies theatre, you are really investigating everything that makes us human. I guess the possibilities are as limitless as your imagination.
