The three-course sequence of systems classes include:
- CE 132 Environmental and Transportation Systems - sophomore-level course
- CE 133 Decision Analysis in the Environment and Transportation - junior-level course
- CE 134 Modeling Environmental and Transportation Systems - junior-level course
The goal of these classes is to present to students a unified view of natural and human-made systems and their interrelationships, and to clearly outline the critical need for engineers to consider the interaction between these systems. This is often lacking in civil and environmental curricula. By combining environmental, transportation and economic systems, we believe we can illustrate to students the essential link between them. The three classes would also be designed to equip students with the quantitative and conceptual tools needed for systems thinking and analysis. These tools would be illustrated on real problems through the use of catamount community service learning projects.
