Jon Erickson

Jon D. Erickson, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Environmental Program at the University of Vermont, and Fellow of the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics.

Jon’s research includes work on climate change economics and policy, renewable energy development, greenhouse gas emissions and energy modeling, and community-based watershed management. He has served on the board of directors of the International and U.S. Societies for Ecological Economics, and is past president of the Adirondack Research Consortium.

David's research focuses on how employees respond to their perceptions of fair or unfair treatment at work (e.g., through cooperation and commitment, or through revenge). David's consulting experience includes work with information technology, retail, and non-profit organizations, and his more recent partnership with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

 

Martha WoodmanMartha Woodman, MBA
Martha Woodman has been on the accounting faculty at the University of Vermont since 1984. During this time her primary teaching responsibilities have been in the areas of Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting and more recently Accounting and the Environment. For thirteen years Marti served as Assistant Dean and Director of Student Affairs for the School of Business Administration. Previously she taught at Washington State University and the University of Oregon.

Martha earned her BSBA at the University of Kansas and her MBA at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She did doctoral coursework at the University of Oregon, where she studied with Professor Barry Spicer one of the earliest researchers on accounting and social issues. Her interests in Accounting and Social issues was retriggered and redirected to Environmental Accounting under the guidance of Professor D. Jacque Grinnell, who started the management and Environment Concentration at UVM. Since 2004 Martha has offered a seminar for seniors and graduate students on Accounting and the Environment.

Following a career as an international executive and entrepreneur, Samsom turned to academics and consulting. Since 1992 has been the professor of entrepreneurship at Nyenrode, The Netherlands. He is a regular visiting professor at  Fordham, UC Santa Barbara, UVM and other institutions. Emerging opportunities at the intersection of economy and ecology are his focus. Samsom leads executive seminars and is a corporate speaker on this subject. He earned a Wharton MBA and a Nyenrode PhD. Bob Costanza: Dr. Robert Costanza is the Gund Professor of Ecological Economics and Director of the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont. His research focuses on the interface between ecological and economic systems, particularly at larger temporal and spatial scales. This includes landscape level spatial simulation modeling; analysis of energy and material flows through economic and ecological systems; valuation of ecosystem services, biodiversity, and natural capital; and analysis of dysfunctional incentive systems and ways to correct them. He is the author or co-author of over 300 scientific papers. For more.

Daniel Dias: Most recently Daniel Lopez Dias has served as the Head of Methodology for Trucost Plc - an environmental research organisation, based in London UK (http://www.trucost.com/3) and as a Ph.D. student at the RSENR / Gund Inst. where he works on developing and implementing corporate environmental accounting and sustainable investment frameworks. He has previously worked for the environmental NGO - Environmental Investigation Agency and as a UK Green Party candidate in the 2001, UK General Election. Daniel holds a master's degree in Environmental Assessment and Evaluation from the London School of Economics and a bachelor's degree in (Marine) Zoology from the University of Bristol.

Donald Droppo, Jr: Donald is the Senior Vice President for Sales & Marketing at Curtis Packaging. He joined the family business in 2003 and has since initiated the move that later established the business as the first luxury packaging manufacturer to be 100% carbon neutral. For more.

GrassoDomenico Grasso: Domenico Grasso is the Dean of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Vermont (UVM) and Chair of the Vermont Engineering and Environment Advisory Council. A Professional Engineer, Grasso is a national speaker on engineering education reform and has led national and international advisory boards for environment and engineering with the World Bank, NATO, Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Academy of Engineering among others.

 

Kevin Harper: Kevin is the Founder and former CEO of Autumn Harp, Inc., a natural cosmetics manufacturer located in Bristol, Vermont. Under Kevin's leadership, the company grew to over $11 million in sales and 80 full-time employees. Kevin sold the company in 2001 to a local entrepreneur who has been successful at growing the business and adding employees. Since leaving Autumn Harp in 2003, Kevin has assisted small businesses with their development through the Peer to Peer Collaborative and one-on-one coaching / consulting. He is part owner of the Bristol Bakery and serves on the Board of the Vermont Community Foundation.

Pat_HeffernonPatricia C. Heffernan Pat is a marketing strategist, writer, and the co-founder of Marketing Partners. She currently serves as president and creative director for Marketing Partners' client team. Prior to establishing her own business in 1982, Pat served for nine years as Associate Dean at Vermont Law School. During that time, the school’s nationally recognized Environmental Law Center was conceived and established. Pat has developed marketing and media plans and award-winning communications materials for public information campaigns and for corporate image, sales, and product promotion programs. She is a Ph.D. candidate in communication and social change theory, and holds an MBA and a BA. Pat has earned the designation of Certified Management Consultant (CMC), and was honored to receive VBSR's prestigious Terry Ehrich Award for Excellence in Socially Responsible Business Practices. Pat has had years of strategic planning experience for organizations in the private and public sectors, managed non-existent to multi-million-dollar budgets, and has spoken extensively on management and policy issues throughout the U.S. Pat serves actively on a number of community and state boards and commissions. Her current and recent affiliations include: a founder and first president of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility; founder and president of Women Business Owners Network of Vermont & New Hampshire; long-time member of the Governor's Commission on Women; and member of the S.B.A. Region I Advisory Council. Jennifer Jenkins: Jennifer is an internationally-recognized expert in forest carbon accounting at the local, regional, and national scales. She was the lead scientist in developing the biomass equations that provide the foundation for biomass estimates in the USDA Forest Service carbon accounting framework. She has nearly 10 years of experience using USDA Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data to estimate spatial and temporal trends in forest productivity and C storage. She was a Lead Author of the 2006 IPCC Good Practice Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Inventories in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. She has also been a pioneer in the rapidly-evolving field of GHG measurement and accounting in urban and suburban land. She is on the faculty of the University of Vermont and is the President of Carbon Dynamics LLC, a consulting firm that provides technical analysis for greenhouse gas inventory projects, with an emphasis on forest carbon accounting. Ellen Kahler: Ellen is the Executive Director of the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund (VSJF). She graduated from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania with a BA in Political Science and from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a Masters in Public Administration. After graduating from the Kennedy School, Ms. Kahler created and directed the Peer to Peer Collaborative, an initiative that assists founder CEOs of small, Vermont-based manufacturing and natural resource based companies. For its first two years, the Collaborative was sponsored by the Vermont Business Roundtable. In January, 2006 the Collaborative became a core technical assistance program of the VSJF. For more.

 

Brendan LeBlancBrendan LeBlanc
Brendan is the founder of LeBlanc & Associates, an accounting and consulting firm specializing in corporate responsibility. He assist clients with sustainability concepts, policies and programs throughout the cycle of assessment, design, implementation, measurement, governance, reporting, internal asssurance and external assurance. Brendan was a manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers domestically and abroad and a partner with an internal audit consulting firm prior to forming LeBlanc & Associates. Brendan is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. Current client engagements include Ben & Jerry's and Stonyfield. Brendan is a graduate of the Sustainable Business program!

 

Don Mayer: Don is an entrepreneur and the owner of Small Dog Electronics, which is the third-largest independent Apple computer "reseller" in the country. That means it buys computers from Apple and resells them to customers on-line, over the phone and in two retail stores. Since Apple is also a retailer, it is now Small Dog's main competition, its main supplier and its main supporter all at the same time; creating a very complicated relationship. For more.

 

Melinda Moulton: Melinda Moulton has been involved in environmental and socially conscious redevelopment since 1983. She and her business partner, Lisa Steele, created the "team approach to design, development, and construction" philosophy and produced in concept a 25-year incremental redevelopment project for the Burlington Vermont Waterfront. Melinda spearheaded 260,000 square feet of built environment on Burlington's Waterfront. She is the CEO and Re-developer of the Main Street Landing building on Burlington's waterfront. For more.

Alan Newman: Alan has been dubbed a "serial entrepreneur" by the Wall Street Journal and has followed an unpredictable professional career that has surprised even himself. He has been involved in the creation of several successful businesses; Seventh Generation, Gardeners Supply and most recently the Magic Hat Brewery, which he founded in 1994. For more.

Bruce Piasecki: Dr. Bruce Piasecki is the President and Founder of AHC Group, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in energy, materials, and environmental corporate matters since 1981. He is the author of six seminal books on business strategy, valuation, and corporate change, including the Nature Society's book of the year, "In Search of Environmental Excellence: Moving Beyond Blame." Since 1990, Dr. Piasecki and his staff have run hundreds of benchmarking workshops for numerous multinational companies, involving key executives in site remediation, power markets, emerging issues, and governance concerns since ENRON. She is responsible for the overall administration, management, planning and development of the organization on an annual and day-to-day basis. Janice Shade: Janice is president and co-founder of Orange Mountain, Inc. The majority of her work has been in the consumer packaged goods industry–particularly the natural products segment–and includes brand management experience at Procter & Gamble and Welch's.
