Integrated Parasite Control & FAMACHA© Training Workshop
COST: Free, with FAMACHA cards available (optional) for $14 after the training. Lunch is available for $7.
Trainer: Dr. Katherine Petersson, PhD, Animal Scientist, Dept. Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science, University of Rhode Island will lead the discussion on effective parasite control practices and train participants in the correct use of the FAMACHA© anemia detection system. Topics will include: Small ruminant parasite ID & biology, dewormers and drug resistance, integrated parasite control practices including pasture management and smart deworming techniques, and the FAMACHA© System including hands-on training for detection of anemia associated with barber pole worm infections.
Dr. Petersson will also provide updates on the USDA Northeast SARE Grant LNE15-342,“New Approaches for Improving Integrated Parasite Control for Small Ruminants in the Northeast” and research being conducted at URI on plants containing condensed tannins as alternative methods for small ruminant parasite control.
