INFORMATION FOR VISITING STUDENTS
Registration and Enrollment: Open enrollment invites all undergraduates currently enrolled in any college or university to Pre-Register for summer courses at UVM (no obligation). By completing the Pre-Registration Form, students are provided with a UVM Student Identification number from the registrar’s office and a netID for email and student portal access.
- Activate Your Net ID: After you pre-register, within 1-2 business days, UVM will create an email account and NetId for all students. Activate your UVM “NetID” by going to www.uvm.edu/account. Your NetID (your UVM user name that connects you to your UVM e-mail address) is usually your first initial and 7 letters of your last name (but this may vary). After you have activated your NetID, you will be prompted to set up a password, and given instructions as to how to access your e-mail account, which may be forwarded to any other account you have. All official UVM correspondence, including billing notices, will be sent to your UVM email account. It is very important to check it often. The best way to access your UVM e-mail is through myUVM. The logo for myUVM is located at the top right of all UVM webpages, next to “Search UVM.”
- Log into your myUVM: As a student, you have access to the web-based student portal. This is where all of your information is kept, as well as where you will go to register for courses, view your schedule, add/drop/ withdraw from a course and access your billing information. You can access this system by going to myUVM at: https://myuvm.uvm.edu. This myUVM portal link is available in the top right corner of every page on the UVM website.
- Adding/Dropping a course – To register for a course, log into your myUVM portal and select the Add/Drop/Withdraw menu. Keep in mind that during the summer the add/drop periods are much shorter. - Withdrawing from a course – if you wish to withdraw from a course after the drop deadline, you can do so from myUVM portal during the withdrawal period, by clicking on Add/Drop/Withdraw button. Refund of tuition is based on the date of course withdrawal. Check the course description for specific dates.Students who simply stop attending classes without completing one of the formal procedures listed above will not be automatically dropped or withdrawn from the course and will likely receive a failing grade on their transcript.
Tuition and Fees: Tuition is discounted 30% from academic year tuition. Vermont residents, even if attending a college or university out-of-state, qualify for the UVM in-state rate. Carefully review Tuition and Fees and Financial Aid information. Make note of the UVM billing cycle and that My UVM Portal can be used to access financial details. Only UVM students are allowed by FERPA law to access their personal information (grades, transcripts, billing). Students may set up up a parent or someone else who is supporting the financial aspects of their education, with Proxy Access. Grades and Transcripts:
- Check Your Grades: You can access your grade(s) online by logging into your myUVM portal. There are no paper copies of grades.
- Request an official transcript: You can order free transcripts by visiting the Registrar’s Office located in the Waterman Building or by clicking here

Things to do before your first class:
- Are You Registered for an Online Course? Before your course begins, you must go online to learn.uvm.edu/online for information on:
- Completing the required Orientation for Online Learning
- Accessing your online course
- Pick-Up Your UVM ID Card: After you register for classes, you can pick up your student photo identification card (CATCard) at the CATcard Service Center, bottom floor of the Davis Center. Every student on campus is expected to carry this card with them. You can read about the many uses of this card at http://www.uvm.edu/~catcard/. Learn more about the CATcard at www.uvm.edu/~catcard.
- Purchase Your Parking Permit: All campus parking is by permit only. Commuter permits are available at the McCauley Hall on the Trinity Campus, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-4 pm. Daytime commuter passes for eligible students and evening permits (valid after 3:30 pm only) are available. Textbooks and other supplies can be purchased online or in-person through the UVM Bookstore. The online ordering system is available usually two weeks prior to the start of a course, and closes a few days before classes begin. Please note: returns are accepted within three working days of purchase with receipt for summer textbooks. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5:30pm and Saturday, 11am-3pm.
- Connect to the UVM Libraries: Your coursework will probably require you to use the UVM libraries, either in-person or on-line. Visit library.uvm.edu to learn more about the resources available, such as the library catalog, databases, course reserves, and other services. If you are connecting to the library from off-campus, click on “Connect from Off Campus” and follow the instructions for setting up your proxy server or downloading the VPN client.You will need your CATcard to sign out library materials, check your library records, renew your library books, or to recall materials from other users. You will need your Net ID and password to access online library resources including electronic reserves.
