About ANTH 296 Z1

Integrative Holistic Health Practice: This course is intended for a multidisciplinary audience interested in exploring a therapeutically-integrated approach to health drawing upon multiple healing traditions as supported by the World Health Organisation. The course will explore the cultural concepts and practices underlying various alternative health promotion and healing practices, including yoga, meditation, spirituality, and other modalities, and explore the dynamics of their integration. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge and background necessary to understand relevant issues in holistic health. Course content covers the established healing traditions, contemporary insights into health and the whole person, and critical analyses of current health issues related to the lifestyle, environment, and socio-cultural influences. The foundation of the course would be the Yogic and spiritual practices that may help in the transformation of self through experiential learning. Yoga symbolizes unification of mind, body and soul that enables an individual to gain higher consciousness as a unique way of life bringing positive paradigm shift from the present reductionist way of life and bring Integral a?? holistic way of life. The learners would experience various therapeutic facets and their application to health care settings. The perspectives and skills taught in this course are viewed as key aspects of twenty-first century healthcare, essential for addressing the challenges of new generation characterized by shrinking economic resources, and the growing role of prevention and ! health promotion. Equal emphasis on experiential learning is an essential component of this course with a significant focus on effective self-learning practice skills for both personal and professional development under the supervision and guided discovery.
