About SOC 286 Z1

Students participate in a service-learning internship, focused on social change and strengthening communities, with a local organization, and put their experience in a sociological context, while participating in a seminar, writing field notes, and writing a related paper. Prerequisites: SOC 001 and one of: SOC 090, SOC 100, SOC 101; Junior standing. placement; Department permission.

Dates: May 18 - August 14, 2015; Minimum Jr. Standing for 100 level Internship, see Soc 196; Cross listed with Soc 196; Students will meet as a class a small number of times throughout the summer. The course is a "hybrd," which means most of the work will be conducted online and independently. Students will conduct internships in a nonprofit organization for 10 hours a week (minimum).
