Course focuses on prevention, recognition, and care of injuries incurred by the physically active. Includes topics of anatomy, biomechanics, nutrition, environmental concerns, and emergency procedures.

This online course explores the basics of prevention, recognition, care, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries to physically active populations. We rely heavily on videos, scholarly articles, personal experiences, and the textbook to help instruct on the following topics: musculoskeletal anatomy; tissue response to injury; nutrition; protective equipment; emergency procedures; environmental concerns; mechanisms of sport injury; injury prevention, assessment, and management; and abnormalities and disabilities as they apply to the physically active. This section is open to ALL MAJORS.
Students are expected to complete all required modules for the course within the 4-week time block, meeting stated due dates for assignments as per the schedule. Students may choose to complete the course early (see PACE below). Students are not expected to submit assignments during the weekends and holidays. *PACE: All course material is posted at the start of the course. You can move through the material as fast as you want, with the expectation that you will submit assignments by the stated due dates. I have prepared daily units that will parallel time frames expected for each day, in order to provide a strategy for a pace that allows for review and completion of the material daily.
There are numerous ways to receives points for this class, including article reviews, online quizzes, discussion board, and a final project. In addition, students will be creating through and iterative process an Injury Management Handbook, that will serve as a guide of the major takeaways from the course.
