Section Description

Pre-Calculus - Math 10 Note: This course is intended as a preparation for Math 21, Calculus I. It is also suitable as a preparation for Math 19, Fundamentals of Calculus I. However, Math 21 requires knowledge of trigonometry, a topic that is covered briefly in Math 19. Math 9 is a more appropriate prerequisite for Math 19. Restriction: Math 10 may not be taken for credit concurrently with, or subsequent to, receipt of credit for any mathematics course numbered 19 or above. Course Description: The topics covered in this course usually include the following: - The Real Line - The Coordinate Plane - Equations and Graphs - Linear & Quadratic Functions - Other Common Functions - Combination of Functions - Composition of Functions - Inverse Functions - Polynomial Functions - Factors & Zeros of Polynomials - Rational Functions - Other Algebraic Functions - Complex Roots of Polynomials - Right Triangle Trigonometry - Sine & Cosine Functions - Graphs of Sine & Cosine Functions - Other Trigonometric Functions - Trigonometric Identities - Exponential Functions - Logarithmic Functions - Exponential Growth and Decay Prerequisites: Two years of secondary school algebra, one year of secondary school geometry. Typical Textbook: PreCalculus by J. Douglas Faires and J. DeFranza (5th Edition).
