Section Description

In this course, we?ll read short stories and discuss the elements of good short fiction. Online, interactive lectures and discussions explore the historical, social, and artistic contexts reflected in great tales from the 19th and 20th centuries. Authors on our list include Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Kate Chopin, Stephen Crane, Ernest Hemingway, Euroda Welty, Ralph Ellison, John Cheever, and Ursual LeGuin.

Section Expectation

Students will be expected to read and respond to on-line content, participate in on-line discussion board writing assignments, and complete a 7 page final web research project.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated in terms of participation, content, development and polish in their written submissions.
