Collection and identification of ferns and flowering plants; survey of prominent Vermont plant families; plant nomenclature, classification, and phylogeny; species concepts and speciation; floral function. Pre/co-requisites: PBIO 004 or BIOL 002 or BCOR 012.

PBIO 109 is an introduction to the flowering plants of Vermont and how to identify them, taught almost entirely outside in natural areas around Burlington. The cours includes study of the flower function, especially pollination ecology, and the evolution of flowers. NOTE: website is last year's version, will update before long.
Attend class every day, prepare a plant collection largely outside of class time, take a daily quiz and two exams.
is based on daily quizzes, a midterm and a final, and a plant collection.
