The Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival is an intensive program of solo and chamber music study welcoming college, graduate, and high school age musicians into an atmosphere of focused professionalism. The festival fosters the artistic growth of committed young violinists, violists, cellists and pianists within a warm and supportive artistic community. Along with its program of study for young musicians, the festival supports a chamber music series which has already taken its place among the most significant musical events in the region. Gifted young musicians of the festival will perform at the UVM Recital Hall, on the Redstone Campus, on all Tuesdays and Thursdays of the festival, and on additional dates as announced.

Grammy-winning pianist Arturo O’Farrill, founder and director of Lincoln Center’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and members of the Latin band Jazzismo, led by Rick Davies, take the stage in this special jazz cabaret evening. The group performs both original compositions and Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz standards. O’Farrill and members of Jazzismo will serve with FlynnArts faculty members as educators for our popular Latin Jazz Intensive.

After exploring the cultural history and performance practices of Latin Jazz with some of the hottest professionals in the field, students of the weeklong Latin Jazz Intensive with Arturo O’Farrill will perform on-stage with the pros at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts.
Tour of Fleming Museum of Art
The University of Vermont’s Fleming Museum of Art is a cultural treasure prized by Vermonters and visitors for more than 80 years. When the Museum opened in 1931, it was hailed as “a practical place of learning — a vibrant, ongoing educational institution for both children and adults.” Today, the Museum houses Vermont’s most comprehensive collection of art and anthropological artifacts. It presents innovative exhibitions of contemporary and historic art from around the world, complemented by year-round programming for all ages.
Burlington Independence Day Celebration

What better way to watch the fireworks this July then on the waterfront! Fireworks begin at 9:30pm, but be sure to get down there early and secure a prime viewing spot!
Stoweflake Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival
DATE: July 6th-8th
Come view 28 of the country’s most prominent balloon experts at Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa! Over 25 hot-air balloons will be launched over this three-day event! It all begins July 6th! First launch will be Friday July 6th at 4 pm, followed by a twilight launch at 6:30pm. July 7th and 8th balloon launch will begin at 6:30am followed by another twilight launch at 6:30pm.
DragonBoat Festival
DATE: August 5th
TIME: 8am-4pm
Come down to the waterfront and cheer on the 2,000 racers during the 7th Annual Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival! First team race begins at 8:00 am and then run until 4:00pm on August 5th. All teams race to fundraise for charity.
Lake Champlain Maritime Festival
DATE: August 9th 9:00am – August 12th
TIME: 10:00pm
Free sailboat, canoe and paddleboat rides during this 4-day festival on the waterfront! There will also be daily bands so come down and listen to some great live music!
Vermont Shakespeare Company Presents Shakespeare in the Park
DATE/TIME: August 17th, 18th, 19th at 6:00pm
DATE/TIME: August 18th at 2pm (matinee)
COST: Tickets $25
Head to Oakledge Park to watch a talented group of actors present The Tempest! This company of professional actors, Vermont Shakespeare Company, is known as “the best Shakespeare northern Vermont has to offer”. There will be shows on August 17th, 18th, and 19th beginning at 6pm and a matinee showing August 18th at 2pm. Tickets cost $25. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the show!
USA Triathlon-Olympic Distance National Championship
DATE: August 18th
Come watch the 2012 USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance National Championship (1.5k swim, 40k bike , 10k run) on August 18th followed by the USA Triathlon Sprint National Championship (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) on August 19th! Another free event on the beautiful waterfront!
Champlain Valley Fair
DATE: August 25th 7pm until September 3rd
TIME: 10:00pm
The Champlain Valley Fair combines Vermont’s agricultural roots with educational exhibits and some of the biggest names in entertainment. It all begins August 25th and runs until September 3rd at the Champlain Valley Exposition. Tickets are on sale now for Jason Aldean who will be performing on September 1st.
Things to do in Burlington
Burlington Farmers’ Market:
Visit the Farmer’s Market at City Hall park every Saturday to pick up locally grown produce, meats, cheeses, and handmade crafts.
Adam’s Apple Orchard & Farm Market:
Go apple picking at this 900-tree orchard in Williston. After apple-picking, check out the farm market to pick up local products such as maple syrup or Cabot cheese.
Shelburne Farms:
Explore Shelburne Farms, a 1,400 acre working farm, which offers many walking trails, children’s farmyard, inn, restaurant and even view the process of cheese making!
Visit to Stowe:
The small downtown area of Stowe offers many little cafes and stores to explore or grab something to eat. Enjoy the Stowe Recreation Path for a hike or bike ride. Take a tour of the Ben & Jerry’s Factory or visit the Cabot Annex Store.
Waterfront Park:
Hangout down by Lake Champlain on many of the benches, swings or grassy areas. Great place to bring a picnic or watch the sunset!
Lake Champlain Chocolates:
Check out Lake Champlain retail store on Church Street and treat yourself to some local and delicious chocolate. There is a Factory Store & Café a five minute drive from downtown where you can tour the factory for free!
North Beach:
Best beach around the Burlington Area, enjoy sun and the great view of the Lake.
ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center:
Located on the waterfront of Burlington, go view over 70 live species, take part in 100 interactive experiences and discover various exhibits or events at ECHO.
Burlington Bike Path:
Enjoy a relaxing bike ride or jog along Lake Champlain. Great views of the lake, mountains and city of Burlington!
Vermont Lake Monsters:
Cheer on the Vermont Lake Monsters at home baseball game.
Battery Park FREE Concert Series:
Burlington City Arts & Independent Radio the Point Present The Battery Park FREE Concert Series. All concerts start at 6:30pm on Thursdays.
