Contemporary issues in the field of Athletic Training. Topics include: pharmacology, general medical conditions and disabilities, male & female health issues, and psychology in sport. Prerequisites: Junior standing and Athletic Training major.

The athletic training student (ATS) will assist in the total operation and management of a professional athletic training work setting. The clinical experience shall consist of supervised fieldwork designed to give students a culminating experience in specialized areas for their professional development. These traditionally consist of both on and off-campus experiences in various settings including but not limited to: high-school, college/university, research, and outpatient orthopedic clinics. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Allow the athletic training student the opportunity to apply athletic training concepts in a professional athletic training work setting under direct supervision of a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer, or other designated Preceptor. SPECIFIC STUDENT OBJECTIVES: 1. Students will gain experience under direct supervision of an AT Preceptor 2. Students will gain exposure to a range of injuries and illnesses 3. Students will apply athletic training skills that they have been deemed proficient in 4. Students will accumulate clinical hours required by the ATEP
Each credit taken for this Clinical Experience in AT summer session shall translate to a minimum of 40 hours of field experience. For example, a 4 credit clinical experience shall consist of at least 160 hours. The minimum time frame to complete this is 8 weeks and may extend as long as 12 weeks depending on individual circumstances.
The format for grading for this course is: Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U). The student will do a self assessment and be evaluated by their preceptor at the mid- term and end of term in the form of a written evaluation in conjunction with verbal discussion/review
