Section Description

Course Description: Introduction to nursing care of populations. Emphasis is placed on understanding the ecological model of public health, methods of population health analysis, structure and function of federal, state and local health organizations, and funding for public health. Discussion will incorporate health disparities, evidence-based intervention strategies, and the role of the nurse in population health

Section Expectation

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 1. Discuss the sources and utilization of data from federal, state and local agencies in assessing populations. 2. Evaluate epidemiologic data and the ecological model perspectives to identify assets and risks of populations. 3. Analyze factors relevant to population health, including health care policy and financing, environmental issues, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, vulnerable populations, and sociopolitical and cultural perspectives. 4. Appraise social marketing within the diffusion of innovation framework for health promotion, disease prevention, and protection strategies in populations. 5.
