Intermediate course in expository writing (nonfiction that describes, informs, and persuades) emphasizing rhetorical choices for varying audiences and purposes. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.
Dates: May 22 - June 16, 2017
This is a course in the art of the personal essay form. Students will draft, get feedback on, and revise three 5-6 page essays: a personal narrative; a process/expository essay; and a persuasive/argument essay.
Readings in and study of the essay form; assigned essays; first drafts; revisions for a final portfolio.
Grade will be based on execution of 1) idea, 2) method and structure, 3) sophistication of language, and 4) correctness in the final revisions.
