About ENGS 050 OL1

In this intermediate writing course, students explore and practice variations in the genre known as the nonfiction essay, attending to audience, purpose, context, style, and medium. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.

Section Description

This is a course in the art of the personal essay form. Students will draft, get feedback on, and revise three 5-6 page essays: a personal narrative; a process/expository essay; and a persuasive/argument essay.

Section Expectation

Readings in and study of the essay form; assigned essays; first drafts; revisions for a final portfolio.


Grade will be based on execution of 1) idea, 2) method and structure, 3) sophistication of language, and 4) correctness in the final revisions.
