This course provides basic knowledge of how accounting information systems function in today?s business environment. It is intended to prepare students for careers in accounting as users, managers, auditors, and designers of accounting information systems. This course will emphasize the internal control necessary to produce accurate and reliable accounting data as it looks at how accounting information is recorded, summarized and reported in both manual and computerized systems. Students will learn documentation techniques to help them describe how internal control concepts apply to a company?s business processes. The course will also cover the role information technology can play in accounting information systems and students will gain practical experience working with a commercial accounting software package.
This course will be delivered in an online format with scheduled online meeting times to facilitate case discussion.
Grades will be based on participation, assignments, exams and a project.
