In this course, fundamentals of music notation, rhythm, melody, scales, and harmony will be addressed. It is a course for non-majors or for students preparing to enter MU 109 (Harmony and Form I). May not be counted toward the music major or minor.
Student will work to understand essential musical concepts involving pitch, rhythm and meter, notation, major and minor scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, dominant seventh chords, and following a musical `road map?. Students will also work on analyzing simple music. REQUIRED MATERIALS (Available at the UVM Bookstore) 1) Textbook: Duckworth, William. "A Creative Approach to Music Fundamentals." 11th edition (2012) 2) Manuscript paper, 81?2 x 11 3) Sharpened pencils with good erasers (no pens, please)
Grading for the course is based on timely completion of all course requirements. Serious and high quality work is expected at all times. The final grade will be calculated as follows: Homework Assignments - 30% Quizzes - 10% Exams (3) - 20% each
