ANPS 20 is the second half of an interdisciplinary course sequence covering human anatomy and physiology. ANPS 19 is the first half of this sequence. These courses are comparable to those taught in the fall and spring semesters of the academic year. ANPS 20 covers the cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal, endocrine, respiratory, urinary and reproductive systems and builds on material presented in ANPS 19. The summer course format involves didactic lectures presented four days per week, complemented by online laboratory exercises.

Summer Undergraduate Human Anatomy and Physiology (19-20) is an interdisciplinary, eight week course offered by the faculty of the Department of Neurological Sciences. This course is specifically designed for students majoring in the health professions who need to obtain a general understanding of human biology. The course format involves didactic lectures presented four days per week, as well as an online laboratory component. ANPS 20 is the second half of this sequence. Special note: The final exam for ANPS 20 will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9:00 am. Course Objectives: 1. To provide a common anatomical and physiological language for communication within the health profession. 2. To provide basic information about the microscopic and macroscopic structure of organs and tissues of the human body. 3. To develop knowledge of the anatomy of the human body by studying how the structure of an organ system relates to its function. 4. To understand key physiologic principles which regulate normal organ function. 5. To understand how alterations in normal organ function leads to disease.
Lectures for ANPS20 will be held in Terrill-Home Ec 108 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, MTWR from June 15 - July 10, 2015. The lectures provide a discussion of the essential material to be covered. Students are responsible for information presented in lecture, appearing in the lecture notes, or assigned by a lecturer. Both ANPS19 and ANPS20 will contain a required online laboratory component comprising the fourth credit of this course. The online lab component consists of online laboratory assignments, each followed by an online graded homework assignment (see evaluation section for grading). There will be four non-cumulative 90 minute exams given in Summer ANPS 20. Exams will be given: Mon, June 22; Mon, June 29; Mon, July 6; Fri, July 10. Special Note: Exam #4 will take place on Friday, July 10, which is the day after the last lecture. The exams are multiple-choice format, and will include questions from both the lecture material and lab material. (see evaluation section for breakdown).
Grading Policy: The final course grade will be based on the four, equally-weighted exams given during the semester plus the laboratory evaluation. The four lecture exams are averaged and collectively worth 75% of the final grade; the average of the 4 lab exams is worth 15% of the final grade; and the average of the graded lab assignments is worth 10%. These lab assignments must be completed before the exam for each block in order to receive credit. Students will be allowed two attempts to complete and pass each lab assignment (before the deadline); only the attempt with the highest score will be considered towards the final grade.
