Collection and identification of ferns and flowering plants; survey of prominent Vermont plant families; plant nomenclature, classification, and phylogeny; species concepts and speciation; floral function. Pre/co-requisite: PBIO 004 or BIOL 002 or BCOR 012.

Section Description

This is a course about the diversity and evolution of flowering plants in Vermont. It is taught almost entirely outside, in the woods, fields, and shores of the Burlington area.

Section Expectation

You will need to learn basic information and concepts about plant identification and classification, and you will be required to assemble a documented and identified collection of dried plants.
