This one-week, on-line course is designed to provide educators with the literacy knowledge, expertise, and support needed to engage in change at the individual classroom level through the focus on action research. Participants (individually or in teams) will work on researching a focus and developing a plan for implementing change in their classroom/school focused on adolescent literacy, which also has the opportunity to infuse areas from the Common Core State Standards in ELA (CCSS-ELA) and Multi-tiered System of Supports Response to Intervention and Instruction (MTSS-RtII). Literacy and learning focus areas for this course include metacognition, engagement with text, opportunity to write, interactive pedagogy, comprehension and vocabulary, and multiliteracies. In addition, participants will discuss how to use purposeful lesson planning and assessment in their practice. Participants from the course may be invited to informal share and/or present their research through Vermont Reads Institute at UVM at workshops and institutes. Individuals or teams from school/district can attend the course.
