The purpose of the course is to engage teachers in dialogue and reflection about the role that middle schooling plays in our students' postsecondary educational opportunities. These efforts embrace research findings that suggest that developmentally responsive teaching, a focus on student efficacy, and explicit attention to issues of equity can effectively reduce longstanding impediments to college access. To his end, we will engage in readings, discussion and student activities in order to become more aware of the issues and dilemmas that middle school students face in their schooling with respect to post-secondary preparation and access and begin to develop curriculum, programs and policies that address these issues. Actual COURSE MEETING DATES will be June 24- June 28, 2013. Subsequent dates to be used for final project completion. Students must first enroll with the Vermont Middle Grades Collaborative.
