Kathryn Fox ()
Dates: May 18 - August 14, 2015; Cross listed with Soc 286; Minimum Jr. Standing; Students will meet as a class a small number of times throughout the summer. The course is a "hybrid," which means most of the course work will be conducted online and independently. Students will conduct internships in a nonprofit organization for 10 hours a week (minimum).
This course is the academic accompaniment to an independent internship. Students will work in an internship (non-profit organization) for ten hours a week. Professor Fox will help students find internships. The course itself is a hybrid, which means much of the work for the course is completed online. There are three face-to-face class meetings, one at the beginning, one in the middle, and a final one at the end, during which students give presentations.
The course can be taken for 100 or 200 level credit, and the requirements are greater for the 200 level.
There will be weekly reading and writing assignments that students complete online. A final paper and presentation is required and it involves a sociological literature review on the topic of your internship.
