This course is designed for grades 9-12 Vermont high school students interested in learning about China and also Japan. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on activities, and experiences, participants study China and Japan through the Universals of Culture and are introduced to both China and Japan historically as well as economic, political, historical, religious and educational aspects of their cultures. Lectures are provided by university scholars and activities are led by the high school faculty. Readings are assigned prior to the course. Students are required to present proposals for further study in areas of interest to them. These proposals must be completed by February 1, 2013, submitted to the instructors for approval, and presented to the class on March 8, 2013.
