Section Description

This course is a basic primer on issues of sex, gender, and sexuality. It is for anyone who is interested in these issues for personal and/or scholarly reasons. It also serves as a Diversity (D2) course at UVM and as a gateway into Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies as a major or minor field. No course, especially a four-week-long summer course, can cover everything. We will focus on three things: 1. Developing fluency with the major concepts in Gender, Sexuality, and Women?s Studies, including Sex, Gender, Sexuality, Transgender, Cis-gender, Privilege, Subordination, and Racialized Gender. 2. Practicing research skills ? so that you can learn more about any subject that might interest you. 3. Applying concepts of Gender, Sexuality, and Women?s Studies to things you routinely see and read. In other words, you will practice being a GSWS-savvy critic of modern society and media.
