More Information

Section Description

Biochemistry is the study of biological processes at the molecular level, examining the chemical reactions occurring in cells that make life possible. In the first part of the course we will discuss fundamental concepts that will allow us to understand the how?s and why's of these reactions ? the environment in which they take place, the biomolecules involved, and the factors that determine whether a reaction can occur. The second part of the course will explore metabolism, specifically focusing on the synthesis and breakdown of carbohydrates and lipids and how these processes are controlled. Finally, we will spend the last part of the course looking at the flow of biological information in cells. How is biological information stored, maintained, and processed? How is the flow of information regulated? All of these concepts will be used throughout the course to gain insight into various diseases and disorders.
