About BSAD 295 OL1

Become better prepared to lead sustainable businesses and benefit corporations by earning a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Business. Please note there will be pre-course on-line readings and discussion two weeks before the one week on campus portion of the course, and there will be a group project started during the on campus portion to be completed during the online week following the campus portion. Students will be expected to return to campus on Friday, August 8 in order to present their final projects. Students who cannot make it in person can participate remotely via Skype. The projects will center around site visits to local organizations that focus on sustainability. Details will be provided by the Instructor via Blackboard. Section Description

This course focuses on the development and use of two sets of financial reporting standards: International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and US Private Company Council (PCC) standards. Future accounting professionals are likely to be involved with both standards during their early careers; both sets of standards are also included on the CPA exam. Course materials include the actual financial reporting standards available online, readings and cases.

The course has four modules (one per week): Module 1: The process and politics of standard setting; the evolution of standards Module 2: Three key IFRS: IAS 41 Agriculture; IAS 40 Investment Property; Revenue recognition Module 3: Differences between US GAAP and PCC; IFRS and IFRS for SMEs Module 4: Estimates and judgments involved in applying financial accounting standards
