Community Resources

As ever, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) maintains a valuable hub of information related to COVID-19. It includes all the relevant UVM communications and policies, and links to a number of excellent external sources of information.

Human Resource Services also hosts a variety of helpful resources, including COVID-19 Notices and Forms and COVID-19 FAQs (PDF). They also invite you to contact Labor and Employee Relations directly with questions at uvmler@uvm.edu

The UVM Staff Council continues to invite you to anonymously share how you're doing during the pandemic through a simple questionnaire. All comments are read carefully and shared with leadership.

If you need support or help with a specific issue, you can contact your Staff Council Representative directly. A list of each unit's representatives is available on the Staff Council website.

COVID-19 Survey - Let Us Know How You're Doing
Dr. David Krag, Vermont MAT database co-creator and professor of surgical oncology at UVM, has also founded the RefBin COVID-19 Database, which collects, parses, and classifies incoming COVID-19 data. RefBin automatically searches the PubMed database each day and retrieves all new scientific articles regarding COVID-19. Relevant articles are imported and reviewed by trained researchers. Statistical information and scientific evidence is sorted into relevant categories within the database and the corresponding article is attached to these findings.

The next Teach-In in the series titled, "Finding Answers Together," will take place on Wednesday, July 1st. You can join these upcoming live events where members of the UVM Community will share their knowledge and expertise around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. Here is some more food-related information that you may find helpful (see more on the PDF index of all resources, which we update weekly):
  • Food distribution by VT Foodbank is on a short hiatus between June 22 and July 3. The State of Vermont, the Vermont National Guard, the Abbey Group, and the Vermont Foodbank are taking this time to prepare for the next phase of the program, which will run in July and August and will include a combination of multiple smaller food distributions while also providing Farmers to Families food boxes at some larger partner organizations. Learn more in this Seven Days article. In the meantime, check out their Get Help page for more food resources.

  • In Essex Junction, the Heavenly Food Pantry is set to be open on July 13th and 23rd, and welcomes all residents of Essex Junction, Essex Town, and Westford to select food and essential items for their families.
The impact of COVID-19 on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) continues to be much greater than on other groups. Racism is a risk factor for dying of COVID-19

Here are some more great resources:
  • This is an excellent, informative, and enlightening 6-page document on how white supremacy culture shows up in organizations. Very helpfully, it also provides "antidotes" - tangible, actionable ways to change processes, systems, cultures, and mindsets in order to move toward being an antiracist organization. Staff Council leadership and the SC office staff are currently reading this document ahead of a meeting with some colleagues who will help us think through and discuss it. We encourage everyone to check it out.

  • The new app Your Black Friends Are Busy is a growing resource for learning about anti-racism and supporting the people & organizations doing important work for the Black Lives Matter movement.

  • The UVM Center for Health and Wellbeing has put together a page on COVID-19 health equity. Here are a couple great resources featured there:

  • Tomorrow, June 27th, Global Goal: Unite for Our Future will premiere. It's a campaign, concert & summit calling on citizens to tackle global injustices by using our collective voice to drive change for everyone, everywhere. It brings together the European Commission, top artists, and global leaders to end COVID-19, build equity for all, and fight for the world we want.
  • Burlington City Arts will have two new exhibitions beginning July 22nd - one featuring paintings by Joanne Carson, and one called STAY HOME / STAY SAFE [EXECUTIVE ORDER 01-20], featuring 30 Vermont artists with new work created in response to the theme of ‘home’ and Vermont Governor Phil Scott’s Executive Order 01-20 | Amendment 6 [Stay Home/Stay Safe] emergency declaration.

  • The BCA Summer Artist Market is going ahead with its summer dates, adhering to State safety guidelines. The upcoming markets will take place at 339 Pine Street from 8:30-2 on the following dates:
    • June 27
    • July 4, 11, 18, & 25
    • August 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29
    • September 5, 12, 19, & 26
    • October 3, 10, & 17

  • Check out Music from the Green, a set of playlists put together by Shelburne Museum of music inspired by their exhibitions and Concerts on the Green.

Each week we've featured ways you can help, through donations or service. We encourage you to check out the index of all the ways to help which we've featured to date in this PDF.

Here are a few more ways to help:

  • Donate to Fork Over, which directly funds service industry workers who are struggling right now. All you need is an account with Venmo.

  • Donate to the National Domestic Workers Alliance's Coronavirus Care Fund, which will provide support for domestic workers.

If you know of new or additional campus or community resources you'd like us to feature, please check our index of resources (PDF) to see if we've already featured it, and if not, send the information to us at staff.council@uvm.edu. And as ever, please reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We want to hear from you!
