STAFF COUNCIL - Serving as a voice and advocate for all staff at UVM since 1971

Professional Development and Staff Assistance

A survey of UVM staff members conducted in 2007 by the Staff Council Education and Professional Development Committee, in cooperation with UVM Human Resource Services revealed that staff members have a wide variety of  professional development needs and interests. Among the great benefits of working at the University of Vermont are the vast educational and training opportunities afforded to staff members.

We have planned this section of the webpage as a one-stop resource to help staff members achieve  their personal and professional goals. Whether you are looking to continue your formal education, curious about UVM's policy on flex time, want to take advantage of workshops offered through HRS Learning Services, or are just curious about what UVM has to offer, we hope you will find what you need right here!

Flexible Scheduling

Flexible Scheduling (page)

The University of Vermont is responsive to important work/life changes that have been taking place in American society over the past 30 years. We are familiar with the patterns forming nationally:

  • Over half of married couples both work outside the home, many with young children
  • More and more employees are single parents
  • Baby boomer employees are now becoming involved in care for their aging parents and relatives
  • Employees are developing their skills and abilities by pursuing continuing education opportunities

In a number of instances, alternative work schedules have been utilized by our various colleges and departments to attract and keep our employees by providing a work environment that is flexible and responsive to the needs of individuals with family pressures and education requirements. Research shows that higher productivity and energy can result by offering these options to our staff.
