Types of Aid Available to Continuing Education Students

Financial Aid is available to Continuing Education students on a "by program" basis. Please identify your enrollment type below to learn more:

For students taking courses required for undergraduate admission to UVM (including the Guaranteed Admissions Program):

  • Available financial aid: Limited Federal Stafford Loan funding may be available. Additionally, parents of dependent students may be eligible to borrow through the Federal Parent PLUS Loan program. Contact Student Financial Services for details.
  • Restrictions/requirements: Aid eligibility is limited to a single, continuous 12-month period. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester to receive aid. Students who have previously received financial aid for non-degree coursework are ineligible.
  • Getting started:
    • 2. Watch for an email notifying you of outstanding requirements on your account. Once you receive the email notice, access your student account and complete the Non-Degree Certification (Intent to Enroll) requirement.

For students taking courses required for graduate admission to UVM:

  • Available financial aid: Limited Federal Stafford Loan funding may be available. Contact Student Financial Services for details.
  • Restrictions/requirements: Aid eligibility is limited to a single, continuous 12-month period. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester to receive aid. Students who have previously received financial aid for non-degree coursework are ineligible.

For students taking courses for the post-baccalaureate/pre-medical program:

  • Available financial aid: Limited Federal Stafford Loan funding may be available. Additionally, parents of dependent students may be eligible to borrow through the Federal Parent PLUS Loan program. Contact Student Financial Services for details.
  • Restrictions/requirements: Aid eligibility is limited to a single, continuous 12-month period. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester to receive aid. Students who have previously received financial aid for non-degree coursework are ineligible.
  • Getting started:

  • Available financial aid: Limited Federal Stafford Loan funding may be available. Additionally, parents of dependent students may be eligible to borrow through the Federal Parent PLUS Loan program. Contact Student Financial Services for details.
  • Restrictions/requirements: Aid eligibility is limited to a single, continuous 12-month period. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester to receive aid. Students who have previously received financial aid for non-degree coursework are ineligible.

For all other types of enrollment:

  • Available financial aid: Federal financial aid is not available for students enrolling for any other reasons. Students may be able to obtain financing through a private/alternative student loan.
  • Restrictions/requirements: Eligibility requirements for each private/alternative loan is set by the lender. Alternative loans may require a cosigner and/or enrollment in a minimum number of credits. Be sure to notify your lender that your program of study is ineligible for federal student aid.
