Dean's Merit Scholarship

Terms and Conditions

The University of Vermont Dean's Merit Scholarship was established to recognize academically talented transfer students enrolling at the University. Students selected for this scholarship typically have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 in their prior college work. For students who have accumulated fewer than 21 college credits, both the high school and college records are reviewed. Described below are some of the rights and responsibilities associated with the Dean's Merit Scholarship. View UVM scholarship policies for more information.

Renewal Eligibility

In order to retain your scholarship, you must remain a full-time student (defined as enrolling in a minimum of twelve or more credits per semester). Enrolling at less than full-time will result in withdrawal of your scholarship for that semester. Reinstatement for future semesters will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. You must also maintain a minimum grade point average of a 2.8 in your first year and a 3.0 in subsequent years, evaluated at the end of each academic year. Scholarships will be withdrawn for students who have not met the scholarship requirements. Academic achievement leading to a cumulative GPA above a 3.0 in the future will result in scholarship reinstatement the following academic year. Your scholarship is a revocable award from the University.

Length of Scholarship

You may receive this scholarship for a total of eight semesters or until you graduate, whichever comes first.

Residency Classification

Scholarship eligibility will be reevaluated based on changes to your residency classification. Changes in residency classification may result in a loss or reduction of scholarship assistance.

Gift Aid Tolerance

Your scholarship award may be reduced or cancelled if total gift aid (including grants, scholarships, employer tuition benefits, and VA educational benefits) exceeds the total cost of attendance as defined by the University.

Relationship to Need-Based Financial Aid

As a merit scholarship, this award is not based on need or financial aid eligibility. If you apply/have applied for need-based financial aid at the University, you will receive more information on your total financial aid package directly from Student Financial Services. Your scholarship will be calculated into your overall aid package.

Summer Session

Your scholarship may not be used to attend summer session classes.

Leaves of Absence & Withdrawing

You may take an approved Leave of Absence from the University for up to two consecutive semesters and retain your scholarship upon your return. Your scholarship will not be reinstated if you choose to withdraw, become inactive, or if you are suspended or dismissed from the University.

How to Accept Your Scholarship
