Our Developing Vision
Many
UVM community members participated enthusiastically in the project,
which has culminated in a draft
proposal
to the Lewis Foundation and a Faculty Senate Proposal.
The plan proposes the formation of an Integrative Center for Sustainable Solutions which will serve as a network fostering
integration, cooperation, whole-systems thinking, and the creation of
solutions to the interdependent ecological and social crisis we face.
The agency, structured as a University of Vermont matrix center, will
achieve these goals by facilitating a series of initiatives, new
courses, and
research opportunities that promote collaboration among
the various schools and colleges within UVM and connecting UVM
with local, regional and global communities. It will linking the
existing
UVM programs with new initiatives while providing crucial financial and
staff support in an supportive academic environment.

A new committee was recently charged with further strengthening this proposal before bringing it to the Faculty Senate this summer.
