CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. –Boston College used three different goal scorers to defeat the University of Vermont 3-0 on Friday night in women’s hockey action.

Allie Thunstrom, who leads the Eagles with seven goals, scored first with a minute and 20 seconds left in the first period. She then helped extend the lead less than a minute into the second period when she assisted on Ashley Motherwell’s second goal of the season.

Thunstrom then recorded her third point of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the game when she assisted on Blake Bolden’s goal to give the Eagles a 3-0 victory.

Both teams struggled on the power play as UVM went 0-7 while Boston College went 0-5. It is now the third consecutive game the Catamounts have had a perfect penalty kill, as they turned away all nine power plays by Northeastern last weekend.

The Eagles’ 3-0 win over the Catamounts improves them to 15-2-0 all-time against the University of Vermont. On the season Boston College improves to 3-2-4 overall and 2-1-0 in Hockey East. Vermont falls to 4-5-0 overall and 0-3-0 in Hockey East during the 2009-10 season.

Senior goalie Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, British Columbia) made 22 saves in the losing effort for the Catamounts.

Vermont will look for its elusive first Hockey East win on Saturday at 2 p.m. when it plays the second game of the weekend series against Boston College.
