Women's Hockey Opens Hockey East Play This Weekend Against Northeastern

VERMONT WOMEN'S HOCKEY WEEKLY NOTEBOOK
The University of Vermont women’s hockey team hosts Northeastern University this weekend for a two-game series. The Catamounts will take on the Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m., while the game on Saturday is slated for 4 p.m.

Live video of the games against Northeastern will be streamed over the Internet on a pay-per-view basis ($7 US) via B2 Networks.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN
The Huskies were tabbed to finish sixth in Hockey East in the preseason coaches’ poll. They have gotten off to a 5-1-1 start, 1-0-1 in Hockey East play including a shootout win over Connecticut.

Northeastern is coming off a sweep of Bemidji State last weekend, with both wins being one-goal decisions. Lindsay Berman leads the attacks for Northeastern with four goals, five assists and nine points through its first seven games. Eight different players have found the back of the net and five of them have scored at least twice.

Florence Schelling is 4-1-1 on the year with a save percentage of .961 and a goals against average of 0.99.

SERIES HISTORY
Since the two teams started playing in the 2001-02 season Northeastern has had Vermont’s number. The Huskies own an all-time record of 9-2-1 against the Catamounts. Northeastern won the series last season 2-1, with Vermont winning 4-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

HOCKEY EAST OPENER
The weekend series against Northeastern marks the 2009-10 Hockey East opener for Vermont. UVM has never won its Hockey East opening game since joining the league in 2005-06. Vermont is 0-2-1 in those games, with the tie coming in 2005-06 against Boston College.

HOME, SWEET HOME
The Catamounts open the season with eight consecutive home games from October 9 until October 31. Vermont is currently 4-2-0 on the homestand and will close home game stretch against Northeastern this weekend. The Catamounts will hit the road for three games before returning to Gutterson Fieldhouse on Nov. 14 for a 2 p.m. game versus New Hampshire.

WHO’S NEXT
Vermont will hit the road for the first time in the 2009-10 season when it travels to Boston College for a two-game weekend series. The game on Friday, November 6 is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday’s game is slated for 4 p.m.
