NOTEBOOK
The University of Vermont women’s hockey team hosts Princeton University
this weekend for a two-game series. The Catamounts will take on the Tigers
on Friday at 7 p.m., while the game on Saturday is slated for 4 p.m.
The Catamounts will look to build on last weekend’s success, which saw them upset No. 4 Clarkson on Saturday by a score of 4-1.
Live video of the game against Princeton will be streamed over the Internet on a pay-per-view basis ($7 US) via B2 Networks.
ABOUT
PRINCETON
The Tigers have yet to play a game in the 2009-10 season, but are coming
off their eighth consecutive season with at least 14 wins. They finished
the 2008-09 season with 18 wins and finished third in the ECAC.
Senior Stephanie Denino returns as the team’s captain and is one of the four returning defensemen. Denino scored a career high 12 points last year as a junior, with two goals and 10 assists to her name.
Princeton also returns its leading scorer from last year, senior forward Melanie Wallace. Wallace scored 22 points on six goals and 16 assists last season. She is also Princeton’s leading active scorer with 17 goals and 47 points.
SERIES HISTORY
Since the two teams first met in the 2001-02 season the Tigers have had the
Catamounts’ number. UVM has yet to defeat Princeton with a record of
0-9-0 all-time. Princeton has outscored Vermont 37-5 in those nine games.
The two schools last met in the 2005-06 season when Princeton defeated
Vermont 2-1 in overtime.
AWARDS
UVM senior goalie Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, British Columbia) garnered
Defensive Player of the Week in Hockey East, the conference announced on
Monday. Olychuck made 26 saves during Vermont’s 4-1 win over No. 4
Clarkson on Saturday. Olychuck has a save percentage of .935 this season as
well as a goals against average of 1.25 with a record of 3-1-0.
HOME, SWEET HOME
The Catamounts open the season with eight consecutive home games. The
stretch lasts from October 9 until October 31. Vermont is currently 3-1-0
on the homestand and will close the homestand against Hockey East foe
Northeastern on Oct. 30 and 31.
PROMOTIONS
There will be exciting gameday promotions again this weekend. The first 100
fans will receive TD Bank seat cushions on Friday. On Saturday between the
first and second periods there will be the Putt at the Gut and after the
game there will be a Skate with the Cats.
WHO’S NEXT
Vermont will host another weekend series at Gutterson Fieldhouse when it
opens Hockey East play against Northeastern. The game on Friday, October 30
is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday is slated for 4 p.m.
