BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore Kailey Nash (Middetown, R.I) of the women’s hockey team and junior Ben Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) of the of the men’s cross country team have been named the UVM/Sheraton Hotel Student-Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 19.
Nash notched an assist and the game-winning goal in UVM’s 4-1 victory over No. 4 Clarkson on Saturday. Nash scored 16 minutes into the second period on a power-play goal when she was able to corral a loose puck and beat Clarkson goalie Lauren Dahm.
Nash then notched her first assist on the season just three minutes later when Emily Walsh scored her first collegiate goal to extend the lead to 3-1. Nash currently leads the team with three goals and four points on the season.
The Catamounts return to action this weekend when they host Princeton in a two-game weekend series. The game on Friday is slated for 7 p.m., while Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Talbot took home first place in the men’s portion of the St. Michael’s Invitational Friday afternoon. Talbot’s time of 26:32 led the way as Vermont runners took the first five places and nine out of 10 overall in the competition.
Vermont will have a week off to prepare for the America East Cross Country Championships, which the Catamounts will host at Catamount Family Center in Williston, Vt. on October 31.
