The University of Vermont Week in Athletics is produced every week during the academic year. The week in athletics provides updates and recaps of all the action, and upcoming events in Catamount Country.

RALLY AWARDS - TUESDAY, MAY 5 - 7:30 p.m. - FLYNN THEATRE
The Vermont Athletic Department will hold the fifth annual Rally Awards on Tuesday, May 5 at the Flynn Theatre in downtown Burlington. The Rally Awards, an all-sports celebration highlighting the accomplishments of the student-athletes at UVM. At the Rally Awards, each team's MVP is honored and six major awards are handed out to Vermont student-athletes. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., the event is free and open to the public.

CHURCH STREET MARKETPLACE TO HOST PARADE
The Church Street Marketplace will host a parade to honor the accomplishments of the University of Vermont men's hockey and women's basketball teams on Saturday, May 2. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the bottom block of Church Street and proceed to the top. Following the parade the student-athletes will be available for autographs.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE (9-7; 3-3 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont picked up a pair of wins on the week, including a 19-11 victory over Stony Brook to clinch a spot in the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Catamounts are making their second straight appearance in the tournament.
QUICK HITS:
* Senior Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) netted a hat trick and collected seven draw controls against Long Island University to become UVM's all-time leader in goals scored and the all-time draw controls leader in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history. Millar added another hat trick and a career-high 12 draw controls in the win over Stony Brook.
* Freshman Samantha Stern (Cherry Hill, N.J.) scored a team-high four goals in the win over Stony Brook and classmate Allison Pfohl (Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored twice against LIU to set a new single-season record for most goals by a rookie (31).
* Vermont's nine wins this year ties the school record for most in a single season. Both the 1984 and 1993 teams posted nine-win campaigns. The Catamounts are also guaranteed of a winning record for the first time since 1994 (7-4).
WHO'S NEXT:
* Vermont earned the No. 4 seed in the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship and will take on No. 1 Boston U at 1 p.m. on Thursday (April 30) at Nickerson Field in Boston, Mass. The winner will advance to the America East Championship game on Saturday (May 2) and face the winner of the No. 2 New Hampshire/No. 3 Albany game.

BASEBALL (12-25, 5-7 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* After defeats in a pair of non-league slugfests, Vermont split a key America East four-game series at league-leading Maine. The Catamounts are in fifth place in the league standings midway through the conference schedule.
QUICK HITS:
* Sophomore shortstop Matt Duffy (Milton, Mass.) continued his torrid pace by hitting .619 (13-for-21) with three homers and seven RBI on the week. He leads the conference with a .455 average and 11 home runs. He is tied for the second in homers in a single season at UVM, two off the record set by Kyle Brault '06 in 2004.
* Senior starting pitchers Justin Albert (Hull, Mass.) and Keith Rakus (West Suffield, Conn.) both had excellent outings in victories over the Black Bears, the top hitting team in the America East. Albert went all nine innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts in a 5-4 win Saturday and Rakus went eight strong innings allowing only two earned runs in Sunday's 6-3 victory.
* The Catamounts hit eight homers in six games last week and now have 33 on the season, four away from the school record set in 2003.
WHO'S NEXT:
* Vermont is at UMass Wednesday and hosts Siena Thursday, both at 3 p.m., before returning to conference action with a four-game series against Hartford Saturday and Sunday at Centennial Field. Both twinbills with the Hawks begin at 1 p.m. Thursday's game starts an 11-game homestand for the Catamounts. Admission is free to all regular season home games.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
LAST WEEK:
* At an outdoor meet at the University of Massachusetts, the Catamount women placed fourth out of seven teams, picking up 112 points. The UVM men's squad was fifth out of nine teams and earned 62.50 points.
QUICK HITS:
* Junior Jan Carlson (Vernon, Vt.) won two events for the second straight week. She captured first place in the 100m with a time of 12.29 and ran a leg on UVM's 4x100 relay team that won the event with a time of 47.76 and qualified for the ECAC Championships. Joining Carlson on the 4x100 squad was Marie Fourie (Waterloo, Ontario), Amanda Auger (West Chester, Pa.) and Erica Cigolini (Ridgewood, N.J.).
* Junior Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) led the UVM men's team. He earned a victory in the 1,500m, an event he does not normally compete in. Maisey posted a time of 3:54.27 in a come-from-behind effort to win the race.
* In the field events, Chris Thomas (Newton, N.J.) continued to impress, placing fourth in the high jump (1.96m/6-05.00) and second in the triple jump (14.62m/47-11.75). Tom Martin (Chester, Vt.) and Cohen went 3-4 in the pole vault. Martin reached a height of 4.50m/14-09.00, while Cohen recorded a mark of 4.35m/14-03.25.
WHO'S NEXT:
* Up next for the Catamounts is the biggest meet of the year, the 2009 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The championship meet will be hosted by Binghamton University on Saturday and Sunday (May 2-3). Saturday's action begins at 10 a.m., while Sunday's events start at 9 a.m.

SOFTBALL (7-36; 3-15 America East)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont went 1-5 on the week, which included a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth on Thursday at home.
QUICK HITS:
* Seniors Alison Daggett (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Jeanine Connolly (West Bridgewater, Mass.) each hit home runs against Albany on Wednesday, as they share the team lead with three apiece this season.
* The Cats earned their only win of the week on Thursday, as Connolly drove in junior Rachel Boone (Brentwood, Calif.) in the bottom of the eighth to earn the come from behind victory.
* Vermont got a pair of great pitching performances on Saturday against Boston U from Daggett and sophomore Jocelyn Abaray (Acushnet, Mass.), but came up short, falling 2-0 and 1-0.
WHO'S NEXT:
* Vermont wraps up the season this weekend with a three-game series at home against Maine. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (12 p.m.) and a single game on Sunday. Sunday will mark the final home game for seniors Daggett and Connolly.

MEN'S LACROSSE (4-10, 1-4 AE)
LAST WEEK:
* Vermont completed its season with an 18-5 loss to No. 10 UMBC on Saturday at UMBC Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The game was televised on ESPNU.
QUICK HITS:
* Freshman Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif.) scored two goals and had three assists. Worley finished the season first on the team in assists (20) and second in points (38).
* Sophomore Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md.) added two goals and an assist against UMBC. Lichtfuss ranked second on the team in goals this year with 22.
* Senior Andrew Kelleher (Delmar, N.Y.), the America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year, scored his team-high 36th goal of the season in the loss to the Retrievers. Kelleher also had a team leading 45 points on the season.
