VERMONT MEN'S SOCCER WEEKLY NOTEBOOK
The Vermont men’s soccer team finishes its regular season with a home
game against defending America East champions Boston U. at 2 p.m. on
Wednesday. The game is a must-win for the Catamounts in order for their
America East Tournament hopes to stay alive.
RECAP
The Catamounts went 0-2-0 last week with games at Stony Brook and home
against Binghamton. Both games were 2-1 decisions with a late-goal being
scored. On Wednesday Stony Brook jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 50 minutes
and then Yannick Lewis (Toronto, Ontario) found the back of the net with
less than four minutes remaining in the game to cut the lead to 2-1.
On Saturday Vermont honored its five seniors - Tom Critz, T.J. Gore, Marty Galvin, Jack Lindsay and Matt Hennessey - before the game. With 21 seconds remaining Matt Kristek was able to beat Critz for the 2-1 victory.
EXTRA TIME
UVM has played in five overtimes so far this season, going 0-0-5 in those
games. Extra time is nothing new for Vermont under head coach Jesse
Cormier. In the six seasons Cormier has been at the helm, UVM has played 43
overtime games, with a record of 8-9-26 in those games.
The school record for most overtimes came in 2006 when the Catamounts played 10 overtime games.

East Standings
Vermont currently sits two points ahead of Boston U. in the America East
standings as both teams are fighting for its playoff lives. A win by either
team will secure a spot as the final No. 6 seed in the America East
Tournament.
If the two teams tie, Boston U. must defeat Albany on Halloween in order to advance to the tournament.
FAMILIAR FOES
Vermont and Boston U. began playing each other on an annual basis in 1972.
The schools have played every year since then besides the 1980 season.
Vermont is 11-21-7 all-time against the Terriers.
Boston U. has had Vermont’s number lately as it has only lost once to the Catamounts in the last 19 matches. The Terriers had a 17-game unbeaten streak snapped in 2007 when Vermont won 1-0 in overtime.
ABOUT
BOSTON U.
The Terriers were tabbed to repeat as America East champions in the
preseason coaches poll, but they are currently seventh in the standings
with a record of 1-4-0 and 7-6-2 overall.
