BURLINGTON, Vt. – At least 10 University of Vermont men’s and women’s basketball games will be televised this season. The men are guaranteed to play six televised contests, while the women have four games on the slate. The television schedule was announced by the UVM Department of Athletics today.
The first Catamount men’s basketball game to be televised will be
Vermont vs. Quinnipiac on December 13 at 12 p.m. on the New England Sports
Network (NESN). Vermont will play five America East conference games on
television starting on January 10 at Albany at 4 p.m., which will be shown
in the Albany area on Time Warner Cable (TW3).
Both showdowns with Boston University will be televised this year. The
first meeting between the Catamounts and Terriers in Burlington on January
17 (2 p.m.) will air on ESPNU and the February 9 game in Boston on Comcast
Sports Net at 7 p.m. Vermont will appear on NESN when it travels to face
New Hampshire on January 27 at 7 p.m. The Cats also travel to face Stony
Brook in a game that will be televised on both NESN and Madison Square
Garden Plus (MSG+) on February 24 at 7 p.m.
Other potential television appearances include the BracketBuster series on
February 19-20 on the ESPN family of networks and the America East
Tournament, which will take place March 4-7 on the campus of the University
of Hartford. The semifinals on March 7 will be televised and the finals
will be held on March 13 at the highest remaining seed and be played on
ESPN2.
The women’s team will play their first televised game of the season on
December 3 (7:30 p.m.) when they face the defending national champion
Connecticut Huskies on Connecticut Public Television. Both games of the
regular season series between Vermont and Hartford will be on television
this year, starting with the Hawks trip to Burlington on January 26 at 7
p.m. on NESN. The rematch in West Hartford will take place on February 27
at 4 p.m. on the Connecticut Sports Network.
Vermont will also face Albany on the road on January 26 in a game that will
be televised in the Albany area on TW3 at 4:30 p.m. The women could also
appear on TV by reaching the America East Semifinals on March 7, while the
league title game will take place on March 13 and be televised on Comcast
Sports Net.
Both teams will have a pair of preseason tune-ups to get ready for the
2009-10 season, as the women kick things off on October 31 when they host
Laval starting at 1 p.m. The men open the preseason against Concordia from
Montreal on November 1 at 1 p.m. The two teams will then take part in a
doubleheader on November 7 as the men’s team opens it up against
