BURLINGTON, Vt. – Three first half goals led Providence to a 4-0 victory over the University of Vermont field hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field. Four different Friars scored, as they improve to 10-9 on the year.

Sunday’s game wrapped up the season for the Catamounts, as seniors Joanna Berger (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Kristen Heavens (Harwinton, Conn.), Megan Maynard (Waterbury Center, Vt.), Sarah Meacham (North Hartland, Vt.) and Chelsea Stevenson (Crosswicks, N.J.) were each honored prior to the final home game of their Vermont careers.

Providence opened the scoring just 4:07 into the contest when Nicole Fernandez redirected a Kelly Grogan shot in off a penalty corner to make it 1-0. The Friars would have success on their corner attempts in the first half, as their next two tallies came off of corners as well. Grogan was the beneficiary of the next score, while Adrienne Marois made it 3-0 with 17:36 left in the frame. Ashlyn Hudson and Jaime Lipski each earned a pair of assists for setting up the scores.

The Friars tacked on a goal 6:06 after the half as Hudson scored off a feed from Ali Shover. The Catamounts had knocked off Providence in each of the last two seasons, as the Friars were nationally ranked in each of those meetings.

Heavens finished with 13 stops for the Catamounts (1-17, 0-5 America East), while Rachel Chamberlain and Kathi Weidman combined on the shutout for Providence. The Friars outshot Vermont 24-9 and used a 9-7 edge in penalty corners for the game.
