WILLISTON, Vt. – Seniors Doug Maisey (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) and Aly Millett (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) led the Vermont men's and women's cross country teams at the 2009 America East Cross Country Championship, which UVM hosted at Catamount Family Center in Williston, Vt. on Saturday.

Maine's Corey Conner won the women's race in a time of 17:56.90, while Erik van Ingen of Binghamton took home first place in the men's event with a time of 25:18.70.

The Binghamton Bearcats took first place in the men's team standings, while the Stony Brook Seawolves won the women's race.

Maisey posted a career-best third place finish to lead the Catamounts to fifth place in the team standings in the men's race. Maisey finished the course in a time of 25:34.80. His performance was the best by a Catamount men's runner since 2001 when Jamie Carmichael placed fourth overall at the league championships.

Millett also posted a career-best finish in her final conference championship race, placing fifth overall. She covered the course in a time of 18:45.20 and her performance was the best by a Catamount women's runner since Michele Palmer was fourth in 2003.

Teammate Morgan Powers (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed ninth overall to give UVM two runners in the top-10 for the first time in nine years. The Catamounts also had their best team finish since 2000, placing third in the women's standings.

Up next for the Catamounts is the NCAA Regional race hosted by Boston University at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on November 14. The men's race is slated for 2:30 p.m. and the women's race will start at 3:30 p.m.

RACE NOTES: Maisey, Millett and Powers all earned America East All-Conference honors. UVM hosted the America East Cross Country Championship for the first time since 1993.
