East Cross Country Championship Central
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women's cross country team earned a ranking for the third straight week, and fourth time this season, in the latest U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional poll. The Catamounts are ranked 14th in the Northeast region poll released on Monday.
The Catamounts are one of four America East schools in the top-15 in the Northeast region, joining Stony Brook, Boston U and Maine.
Last week, the women's team won the Saint Michael's Invitational. Senior Aly Millett (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) won the women's race with a time of 18:10, leading Vermont runners to take nine of the top 10 spots overall. Millett battled with teammate Morgan Powers (Cincinnati, Ohio) the entire race and was able to catch Powers down the final stretch to take home first place. Powers finished one second behind her teammate with a time of 18:11. Freshman Julie McGilpin (Westfield, Mass.) placed third overall with a time of 19:15.
The Catamounts are off this weekend and will return to action on October 31 when Vermont hosts the America East Cross Country Championship at Catamount Family Center in Williston, Vt. The men's race is scheduled to being at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by the women's race at 11:30 a.m.
