JOHNSON, Vt. – The Vermont men's and women's cross country teams each took second place at the Vermont State Meet hosted by Johnson State College in Johnson, Vt. on Saturday afternoon.
The Middlebury Panthers swept the event. Jack Davies won the men's race with a time of 27:41.8, while Claire McLlvennie took first place in the women's competition with a time of 18:43.1 for Middlebury.
Vermont placed five runners in the top-15 led by junior Jason Kruczynski (Beverly, Mass.). He finished fourth overall with a time of 28:06.4. Ryan Sleeper (West Windsor, N.J.) and Jonathan Sears (Derry, N.H.) went 7-8 in the race, posting times of 28:32.7 and 28:40.2, respectively.
The UVM women's team also had five runners finish among the top-15 in the race. Freshman Sophia House (Great Barrington, Mass.) led the Catamounts with an eighth place finish and time of 19:39.4. Gillian Rissler (Beverly, Mass.) was just behind House, finishing ninth in a time of 19:58.9.
Up next for Vermont is the New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on October 10.
