BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont's Justin Milo (Edina, Minn.), a member of the baseball team, and Samantha Stern (Cherry Hill, N.J.), a member of the women's lacrosse team, have been named to the Jewish Sports Review All-America Team for their respective sports for 2009. The organization made the announcement this week.
This past season Milo, an outfielder and designated hitter, batted .350 with six home runs and 39 RBIs in 33 games. He was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team for a second straight year. For his career, Milo hit .337 with 12 home runs and 79 RBIs in 83 career games. He also posted 23 doubles and 10 triples in his career.
Following the 2009 season, Milo was selected in the 37th round (selection 1125) in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees. He is currently playing in Tampa, Fla. for the GCL Yankees in the Rookie Gulf Coast League. He homered in his first at-bat in his first game and finished the game with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with two runs scored and drove in two RBI.
Milo is also a member of the Vermont men's hockey team that went 22-12-5 (15-8-4 HEA) this past season and reached the 2009 Frozen Four. He ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 39 games. He was named to the Jewish Sports Review Men's Hockey All-America Team earlier this year. Milo will return for his senior campaign with the men's hockey program in 2009-10.
Stern was a unanimous selection for the America East Women's Lacrosse All-Rookie team in 2009. She finished her first season at UVM ranked fifth on the team in scoring with 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points. Stern earned America East Rookie of the Week honors twice, including the last week of the regular season, after scoring a team-high four goals in Vermont's must-win victory over Stony Brook to help propel the Catamounts into the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship for the second straight year.
