Rally Awards Logo In 2005, the University of Vermont Athletic Department established the Rally Awards, an all-sports celebration highlighting the accomplishments of the student-athletes at UVM. The inaugural Rally Awards took place at the historical Flynn Theatre in downtown Burlington and over 800 people attended the event.

At the Rally Awards, each team's MVP is honored and six major awards are handed out to Vermont student-athletes. They include: Jeff Stone Memorial Award - recognizing exceptional contributions in community service; Underclass Athletic Achievement Award - recognizing outstanding athletic accomplishments by underclass student-athletes; Semans Trophy - presented to the seniors who have excelled in the athletic arena and demonstrated exceptional leadership; Russell O. Sunderland Memorial Trophy - presented to the seniors who have persevered over obstacles in their career; Wasson Athletic Prize - presented to the senior scholar-athletes at UVM; J. Edward Donnelly Award - presented to Vermont's top senior student-athletes. The athletic department also presents an annual award to individuals in the community for their loyal support and devotion to the University of Vermont Athletic Program.

The Athletic Department Award is presented to individuals for their loyal support and untiring devotion to the University of Vermont Athletic Program. The 2009 Athletic Department Award was given to Patty Corcoran, Assistant Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences at UVM.

Jeff Stone Memorial Award

2009 winner of the men's Jeff Stone Memorial Award Tom Cheney with Barry and Carole Stone

The Jeff Stone Memorial Award recognizes exceptional contributions by a male and female student-athlete, in any class, in the area of community service and leadership and is presented in memory of Jeff Stone, an outstanding tennis player at UVM who died tragically in 1984.

The Jeff Stone Award was handed out for the first time in 2005. The 2009 recipients were Brittanie Booker of the field hockey team and Tom Cheney of the cross country team.

The Underclass Athletic Achievement Award was also handed out for the first time in 2005. The honor recognizes the outstanding athletic accomplishments by a male and female student-athlete in the freshmen, sophomore and junior classes.

Semans Trophy

2009 winner of the men's Semans Trophy Dean Strong with Tom Cheney, Chair of the UVM Student-Athlete Advisory Council

The Semans Trophy has been awarded since 1956, and is presented to the senior male and female student-athletes who have demonstrated a high level of athletic achievement and who earned the respect and regard from his/her fellow students for leadership, loyalty, and service to the University.

The Russell O. Sunderland Memorial Trophy has been presented since 1939. It honors the senior male and female student-athletes who, throughout their college careers, have demonstrated a high level of athletic achievement and who has exemplified the qualities of character, leadership and persistence in overcoming obstacles.

The Wasson Athletic Prize is given, since 1929, to the senior male and female student-athletes who have demonstrateda high level of athletic achievement and who maintained the highest standard of academic scholarship.

In 2009, the Wasson Athletic Prize was awarded to Connor Tobin of the men's soccer team and Diana Purtz of the women's cross country team.
